How & Why Sierra Homes is a Different Kind of Builder
Education:
We at Sierra Homes believe that being a builder and building a home is no longer something that the average person can do themselves. We embrace the Building Science Technology that is taught through the Energy & Environmental Building Association (EEBA) and the courses taught by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).This education and information allows us to provide our clients with up-to-date, state-of-the-art systems and techniques so that we may build more comfortable and durable homes.
Systems Approach to Building:
We build homes using a systems approach to building. This approach takes into account all aspects of the home and incorporates them so that they work together. By thoroughly evaluating all the components of the home and how they work together from the beginning of construction, we can provide a more comfortable, durable, and energy efficient home to live in a high performance home.
Team Members:
We have put together a talented Team of people that are each equipped to provide a high level of professional service during each phase of the construction process. From detailed construction schedules, budgets, and accounting reports, to hands-on jobsite supervision, we believe that having informed clients as part of our team is mutually beneficial.
Energy Efficiency:
We go to great lengths to improve the energy efficiency of every home we build. From tightening the building envelope to using improved insulation such as Icynene® or Structural Insulated Panels Systems (SIPS), energy efficient lighting designs and correctly sized HVAC systems, we can greatly reduce monthly utility bills and make a more comfortable environment in which to live.
Improved Indoor Air Quality:
As a result of tightening the building envelope and using energy efficient methods, the indoor air quality in much improved. Not only is the indoor air improved, but the dust is greatly reduced making for a cleaner, healthier home in which to live.
Energy Star:
We have all of our homes inspected by an independent energy rating company that verifies the accuracy of the building methods that we employ. Each home is then certified as an Energy Star™ home to assure our home owners that we have built their home to the standards that insure them reduced utility bills.
Stewards of Our Environment:
The experience of the last 18 years in construction has influenced us to become better stewards of our environment. The standard method of construction allows for multiples of dumpsters to be emptied into our landfills with enough construction material to produce 1 to 2 more homes. By managing the inventory more efficiently, less waste is produced during the construction process. We also recycle any and all products that are recyclable so that these products don't end up in the dumpster. Finally, we end the process by chipping all left over lumber and scraps to produce landscaping materials for our clients at the end.
Rainwater Collection:
Living in the Texas Hill Country has also made us better stewards of the water we have. We strongly encourage and try to incorporate some type of rainwater collection into the construction of each home we build.
