"Green house, clean home: Couple builds home with efficiency in mind."
From Kerrville Daily Times.
When Bernadell Larson and Stu Thompson decided to build a home on the North Fork of the Guadalupe River, they wanted it to be completely sustainable and environmentally friendly.
That vision resulted in the first Hill Country home to be certified "green" by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, a third-party certification program that sets the nationally accepted benchmark for design, construction and operation of green buildings.
"One of the biggest steps we took was not designing a house that was bigger than we needed," Larson said. "We focused on a larger outdoor living area and a smaller home."
Built by Sierra Homes of Fredericksburg and designed by Houston architect LaVerne Williams, the home features 2,200 square fee of living space but has more than 3,500 square feet under roof.
